Another thing is if you know they need something for next month you can get started on that. I know me for example all I want is college dorm supplies or gear. This could be exactly what you can get your college student this or a car.
   Another thing to look at is watching out for sales. You can see if your surrounding stores still have sales going on.You might can be able to catch the last big deals going through. If you are able to buy gifts online you can see if they will be able to deliver on Christmas Day. You can also see if you can ship it to the store to pick it up.
